One Planet, Our Future: Réimaginer la prospérité dans un monde fini
20 Years of the CSDD: “Should the Country Plan for Degrowth?”
To celebrate its anniversary, the Higher Council for Sustainable Development (CSDD) hosted a unique evening debate centered around a crucial question for Luxembourg’s future: should the country plan for degrowth?
Amid growing ecological pressures and concerns about the long-term economic viability of the Luxembourg model, the conference brought together experts and researchers to exchange differing, evidence-based viewpoints on this urgent issue. The event featured an opening speech by Timothée Parrique, an economist-researcher at the University of Lausanne, followed by a roundtable discussion with Serge Allegrezza, Director of Statec, François Mousel, Managing Partner at PwC Luxembourg, Aline Muller, CEO of LISER, and Christian Schulz, Professor at the University of Luxembourg.
With the participation of Mr. Serge Wilmes, Minister of the Environment, Climate, and Biodiversity, the CSDD aimed to challenge preconceived ideas and envision a model of prosperity that can adapt to future challenges within the planet’s limits. This thoughtful, constructive, and sometimes contrasting debate, held before an audience of over 300 people, provided a rare opportunity to collectively reflect on Luxembourg’s economic, social, and environmental future.
